Scouting Around the World                                            United States

USS Macon (Z RS-5) was a ri gid airship built and operated by the United States Navy for scouting.
Macon ' s first flight was on 21 April 1933. She served as a flying aircraft carrier, launching
Sparrowhawk biplanes. In serv ice for less than two years, on 12 February 1935 Macon was damaged
in a storm and lost off Ca li fo rnia 's Big Sur coast. 81 of the 83 aboard the Macon surv ived the crash.

morated by three differe nt cachets sponsored by the Sea Scout Ship " Al liance", belonging
to the Boy Scouts of America. I07 covers were prepared for the passing of Ardsley on
Hudson, N.Y ., 100 covers fo r West Point, N.Y. and on ly 50 covers for Yonkers, N.Y.
