Advertising slogans were used in Manila 1938-1941:
"Boy Scout Anni versary Period October 3 1 - November 15" .

Below: Air mail letter sent from Manila 29 July
1939 to a passe nger on board S.S. "Cerami e" at
Madeira. Censorship cachet on front. Transit
postmark Lisboa, Portugal I I August 1939, and
arrival postmark Funchal , Madeira 14 August 1939,
both on reverse.
Manuscript "ship not calling at Madeira" on front,
and the letter is re-addressed to Tenerife, where it
seems that it was delivered to the ship. Manuscript
(front) "Not On Board" and " Return to Sender", and
postmarked Cape Town, So uth Africa 15 September
1939, where the ship presumab ly was ca lling.
Returned to Manila, where it received the slogan
" Boy Scout Anni versary Period'' 21 October 1939.
The sender has then re-addressed the letter to
Scotl and with manu script ann otation " Via U.S .A",
and affixed new postage which is postmarked
Manila 27 October 1939.
