Jamaica Revenues: Customs Stamps, 1855 - 1874.

The first Jamaican adhesive revenue stamps were two values for Customs. They were in a design
showing the Arms of the colony.
Die proofs of the central vignette with uncleared surround and of the two completed dies.

                       Ex Sutcliffe. Ex Sutcliffe.

                                                                              Ex Mahfood.

Issued 1855, typographed on glazed, unwatermarked paper by De La Rue. At first imperforate, from
1857 perforated 14. The double fugitive ink on glazed paper was an effective security measure,
rubbing and running very easily, especially on the 3d value.

1½d 1857 on blue paper. On white paper.

                    3d on blue paper.
            SPECIMEN overprint across two
stamps, Samuel type J1, a local
overprint by the Jamaica Post Office
            for presentation purposes.
