Jamaica Defence: World War II U.S. Forces.

            The USA and Great Britain agreed in December 1940 to exchange 50 WWI US destroyers for a chain
            of bases from Newfoundland to the Caribbean. In Jamaica from 1941 the US Marines and Navy were
            at Portland Bight, the naval air station was at Little Goat Island, the army were at Fort Simonds and
            the army air force at Vernam Field. US forces operated their own postal system and censorship.
