KARACHI DISTRICT
Three types ofhandstamp, all emanating from Karachi, are those most likely to be encountered by
the general collector. Unfortunately there is very strong evidence that they were all prepared for
. collectors rather than for genuine postal usage. It is also possible that they were used for educational
or training purposes. All the overprints are on ordinary issues and st:nlck in various shades of
purple or violet ink.
Type 1. A large two line overprint with Annas abbreviated. Capital A and P with the new currency
on the second line enclosed by brackets. Height ofletters 4mm, Length of Paisa 11.5mm. The four
values with this overprint were widely distributed, along with the 19 Paisa I 3 Annas stamp of Type
2 by "new issue" services in 1961.
