MYMERSINGH DISTRICT
Of all the handstamps issued in East Pakistan those used in the Mymersingh District are the most
frequently encountered and are relatively easy to understand. The fact that they are all in Bengali
script does not assist collectors unfamiliar with the language. There are three types listed by Isani
and his data is copied by Khalid Mahle and Shahid Zaki, but unfortunately neither publication
illustrates the third handstamp described therein.
Type 1.
Struck in violet and recorded only on Ordinary issues this boxed handstamp is stated by Isani to
have been used mainly between May and September 1961 in Chandpur (Mymensingh)
Dewanganj, Hazarabari, Charumihir, Sherpur Town, Shipur Town, Jamalpur, Khankhanpur •
(Faridpur) and Islampur -Mymensingh. Length of Paisa, 11 mm, height of Paisa, 4 mm, size of
box, 24 126 mm x 10 11 mm.
