Australasia benefited from the Scottish population exodus, with most of the immigrants from Scotland's urban centers.
Few of the prisoners sent to Australia were from Scotland. lnstead, it was the more educated and wealthy who could
afford to migrate to Australasia. These Scots came for opportunities: for inexpensive land and later chasing fortune in
the Gold Rush.
