United States Maine
By the 1850s the United States became the main destination for over 50% of immigrants from Scotland. Middle class and
educated Scots chose migration to the United States seeking opportunity and wealth. Sorne settlers to the Northeast came
to urban areas, while other settlers came to the Mid-Atlantic and south to farm.
