The GOLD RUSH in California
From 1850 to 1860, many immigrants came to California: Chinese, Irish and Scottish. At a time when the
world's money supply was based on gold, the newly mined gold provided economic stimulus far beyond the
mines, creating trade and a new economy suppling goods and services.
