          Scottish influence in  lndia began with the East lndia Company (EIC) which employed Scots in administration of claimed territory.
          Other Scots developed key infrastructure in  lndia, Ceylon and other Commonwealth nations in Asia: railways, telegraph and
          national post were aimed at furthering trade.

                                            This section is organized from west to east.

          The 9d rate to India via Marseilles was set 1 January, 1857, a reduction from the 1/lOd British closed mail rate from 1843.

                            Nowgong post marking, 20 October, Bombay, 22 November receipt reverse datestamp.


        lndia became a massive market for the British economy: exporting finished goods and with lndian imports used in Scottish industries.
