L.I.A.P. TRIALS PARIS 17
L.I.A.P. trials were conducted at the Paris 17 office in November and December 1978. The
machine code for 18 rue Poncelet in Paris 17 is 6YOBJ and is shown centre right of the address
label. Having both alphabetical and numeric values, the characters BJ also equate to the house
number 18. At the top of the address label is the 19 stroke binary representation of the
machine code which the technicians compared with the indexation when evaluating the results.

The bin card automatically drops when a destination receptacle is full. In this case, to avoid test mail
being confused with real mail, the card has been marked ESSA, an abbreviation of ESSAI (trial). The
reference code 07C appears on both the card and the test envelope.
