L.I.A.P. TRIALS PARIS-MONTPARNASSE

L.I.A.P. trials with test mail began at Paris-Montparnasse in 1974 with the intermittent
treatment of real mail from the Credit Lyonnais, C.R./. T. and the Cheques Postaux service between
September 1974 and March 1975. The bulk of the trials were conducted using window envelopes
but later in 1975 items with typed addresses were extracted from real mail received at the
office and used to test the capacity of the optical reader to recognise different fonts.
Simulated 'real' mail was also created with frankings and genuine addresses for use in trials to
assess the accuracy of the internal codes data bank.
