In some departements there may be towns which start with the same syllable for which there is
not a prescribed group variant. for example, in the departement of Houts-de-Seine (92) there
are the towns of Garches and La Garenne which in theory would share the code 92GAR. In
practice though, the coding desk operator transcribes, after the departement code, only the
first letter of the town followed by a zero and finally a digit to differentiate between the two
viz 92G01 for Garches and 92G02 for La Garenne.
