CEDEX VARIANT
In order to facilitate delivery to companies receiving large volumes of mail, a system known as
CEDEX (Courrier d'Entreprise a Distribution Exceptionnelle) was launched on 1 October 1966.
Initially on an experimental basis with only 18 participating companies in the Paris region, the
scheme was gradually extended throughout France. Specific postcodes were not allocated to
the registered companies until 1972 when each received its personal five figure numeric code.
