One Penny Value in Red
The one penny value had the highest printing volumes, over 14 million in total. It was used primarily on mail
within Sierra Leone, with a low survival rate of commercial covers. The duty plate was initially 120-set, but
this was increased to 240-set in 1915. After 1915, keyplates 3 & 4 and 7 & 9 were used in pairs.
Plates used: 1a, 1b, 3, 4, 7 & 9. Seven printings from 1912 to 1920
