COLONIAS and Espécimen Overprints
Similar to the Edwardian ULTRAMAR overprints, stamps to be circulated to
Portuguese Colonies from 1911 to 1920 were overprinted COLONIAS in Lisbon.

                                                               Die I stamps from 1912
                                                             overprinted COLONIAS.

                                                                  Ex Goa Archives.

Any stamps despatched between 1920 and 1924 received no additional marking. In 1925 the COLONIAS
overprint was re-introduced. From 1926 to 1931, a new handstamp reading Espécimen was used.
