1912 Die Proofs
These large format stamps were produced using a key plate and duty plate system, with a single head plate
being used for all eight values. Unusually, the duty plates were much more complex than the head plate.

1912 - 1921 Multiple Crown CA Watermark. Perf 14. UPU Specimens

In 1912 the Universal Postal Union were sent 421 copies of the 1s and 2s, but just 404 copies of the other
values. Each stamp is overprinted with SPECIMEN Type D12a. The 3d on pale yellow paper was not printed
until 1921, and was presumably sent with the contemporary small format stamps at that time.
