The First Victorian Keyplate 1872 to 1896

1872	  Preparation for the Introduction of Keyplate Issues.

The Crown Agents had accepted an estimate from De La Rue on 20 November 1871. They stressed that the
new die was to be made from the “new Colonial Head B”.

The letter from De La Rue continues on the back of this item: “… of the work but demonstrate that they can
be printed in any variety of colours that may be required. Our price for the requisite Steel Key-die would be
£50.” De La Rue also charged £21 for the manufacture of the keyplate and £12 for each duty plate.
