1841 Ship Letter
15 April 1841 - Sierra Leone to London. Charge 3s 8d crossed out and replaced with 1s 4d. London Ship Letter handstamp.
From 1840 the inland charge on an incoming ship letter was abolished. The
ship letter rate was 8d per half ounce until 31 May 1855.
The sender was Walter Croley, a ‘catechist’ or religious education teacher. He
embarked for the colony on 5 December 1835, and arrived 15 January 1836.
