Handstruck 1d and Taxe ‘T’

This cover was underpaid by the sender by ½d; the correct letter rate to the United States being 2½d at
this time. The post office in Freetown identified the shortfall, and marked the item T and 1d, ie double
the deficiency.
It is unusual to see either of these instructional marks struck in red.
