World War II Civil Censorship

Handstamp Type 4 - Censorship of Internal Letters
All international mail from Sierra Leone was examined by the censors, but it is apparent from the existence of
this cover that local mail was also subjected to censorship. This example is the only one known to have been
treated this way.

29 December 1942 - Local Freetown cover. Censor Number QQ/1.
In addition to the datestamp of 29 December cancelling the adhesive,
there are further Freetown backstamps for 1 January and 2 January 1943.
