Sierra Leone had joined the UPU on 1 January 1879 and was expected to follow the proposals to have
standard colours for the ½d, 1d and 2½d values. As the 1d was already red and there had not been a 2½d
value, only the ½d stamp needed re-issuing quickly. Other new colours and values were also introduced.
