Kunso
Kunso
Kunso is located in the northern Karene District. In Edwardian times mail was Port Loko
taken by carrier and canoe south-west towards Port Loko where it picked up the
weekly mail boat service to Freetown. This was a relatively short-lived office. It
initially opened 1 December 1899, with a re-opening announced 1 June 1907.
It was not on the post office list for 1910 or thereafter.
2 December 1909 - Kunso to Houghton, United States
This postcard had a transit time of six days to Freetown (8 Dec), typical for the weekly service largely undertaken
by carrier and canoe. This card originates from one of the American missionaries working in Kunso; this
mission was a main user of Kunso post office. The 1d postcard rate to the United States is correct for this date.
