Fo ll ow in g the German invasion, a ll forms of corporate act1 v1ty, Sco utin g included, ceased , but the Scouts
remained and soon activities picked up again. The Sco uts were hea11ened by a letter sent to th em by the Chi ef
Scout of Norway "Now that the war is here it is no use asking why and/or how long. What counts is to make the
best of conditions as they are.". Two months after the in vas ion many Troops were ab le to organize summer
camps as replacement fo r the nationa l ca mp whic h had been cance ll ed . Thi s situation would not last, for Quis ling
and hi s fo llowers had founded a yo uth organ isatio n whic h they intended wou ld swa ll ow up the Scout Movement.

By a utumn 1941 , it was obv ious that persuasion wou ld y ield no result and Scouti ng was suppressed.

Scout in g. The Nazi authoriti es banned Scouting less than a month after this letter was sent.
