Jamaica Continent Embarking for WW1
The stamp represents “Peace”.
The design is taken from a photograph showing the embarkation of the Jamaican Contingent
aboard the SS Verdala on 8th November 1915.
Upon initial review the photograph looks genuine but close review shows a different ship, without military personnel on board!
Further research of proof material confirms that this photograph is the basis for the design
but the engraver has employed considerable artistic licence.
