Jamaica Registration: Distinguishing Marks: The R in Oval.
Registered oval datestamps were applied to registered post only at Kingston. The R in oval ® (Lant
type RS1) brass handstamp met a UPU requirement. It was issued to every office to make registered
post originating from any office equally distinctive. With wear, each is slightly different.
R in oval ® earliest known date, 11 October 1882, on a registered piece to the USA.
