Jamaica Telegraph.
Unstamped telegraph form, prepared for use with 1s stamp.
Printed by Waterlow and Sons.
The sender of a telegram completed or
dictated their message onto a despatch
form at the office of origin. Despatch
forms were printed in unpaid versions,
like this one, or with a prepaid stamp,
known as Form A.1. The unpaid forms
were designated Form A, which letter
appears at the top left. Post offices
were supplied with books of 20
despatch forms; this form has the
preprinted message No 1, so it may
have been the top of the book.
This unpaid form has been prepared
with a 1s telegraph stamp but not used.
1s was the minimum charge for inland telegrams, for up to 20 words, with 3d for Copy of the back.
each extra 5 words – hence the choice of denominations for telegraph stamps.
Used despatch forms were kept by the post office.
