                                                  Telegraph stamps: postal use.
When telegraphs were introduced the Post Office made it clear that telegraph stamps and postage
stamps were not interchangeable. Some telegraph stamps were nevertheless used for postage,
especially after 1887 when postage and revenue stamps were merged.

                                                                                       3d telegraph stamp on cover
                                                                                       from Port Royal to Kingston.

                                                                                       3d triple inland rate.

                                                                                       Port Royal:
                                                                                        20 December 94.

After 1911, telegraph forms carried printed stamps with the legend ‘Postage and Revenue’.
This may have encouraged the use of cutouts from telegraph forms for postage.

              6d cutout from
              telegraph form on
              registered philatelic
              cover from Malvern to
              Great Britain.

              6d is not a correct rate;
              triple Empire postage
              would be 3½d or
              quadruple 4½d plus 2d
              registration.
