Henry Kent
A notable correspondence exists to the addressee, Major Kent in India (46 covers) from 1859 to 1869 and subsequently in the UK.
Henry Kent was born in the UK to a naval family but moved with them to Jamaica in 1834 at the age of nine.
He joined the 77th (East Middlesex) Regiment of foot in Jamaica at the age of 20 as an Ensign.
He served with distinction in the Crimean war and India and retired as Hon. Lieut. General in 1886.
He died in 1921 at the age of 96.
