Lloyd's coffee house became
recognised as the place for obtaining
marine insurance.

A letter written in Manchester on 251h October 1845 by H.J.Merck & Co.
addressed to A.A.Rasch at Lloyds Coffee House. The letter, a photocopy
of which is set out on the reverse, refers to the insurance of goods aboard
various ships; requesting a revised invoice in view of the amended transit
details. The letter was received in London on the 27th and replied to the
same day. The ld red-brown is cancelled with the 498 obliterator of
Manchester.
