Nerot's Bagnio and Hotel
King Street, St. James's Square
1776-1819
It appears to have been opened by John Nerot around 1776 as a bagnio
and hotel, in a building on the South side ofKing Street which was
demolished in 1835 and the site later occupied by the St. James's Theatre.
The commentator William Hickey wrote in 1777 of a visit "to Nerot's
famous baths in King Street". By 1795 it had developed into a
fashionable hotel which was frequented by Edmund Burke towards the
end ofthe Century. Late in 1800 Lord Nelson met his wife and his father
at Nerot's , before parting company with his wife. The last mention of it
was in a directory in 1819 as Nerot's Hotel, Clifford Street.
