New Hummums Coffee House
                                            Tavistock Row, Covent Garden

                                                       (1776-1840)
                   The earliest reference to this coffee house is in 1796 and by 1803 it was
                    advertising as "an excellent place for good beds and breakfast, with the
                    convenience ofhot and cold baths". Records indicate that, in 1826, it re-
                    located to 11, Great Russell St.
                    Two letters, both addressed to Henry Lloyd ("ofLudlow"), are displayed
                    below.
