III B THE 1893 EIGHT ANNAS REVENUE PAPERS
These papers often have barely distinct crests at the top. This is because of the very finely detailed
engraving of an elaborate crest, but also to overinking and experimentation with inks, presumably
to tailor them for the needs of the innovative design. Koeppel & Manners state in error that they
were introduced in 1895 listing only the blue and red, with no mention of shades, or of the browns.
Earliest known eight annas revenue paper (1893) showing deep oily red state crest. Also shows the handstamps
of the Durbar Office in Kishangarh (official seal at right and True Copy stamp at left). Below this handstamp is
written True Copy Dhannalal, assistant duty officer and to its right the initials JW of Jwala Prasad Chief Stamp
Duty Officer. This may have been an experimental printing as Blue Seals appeared in 1894.
