                             At the RPSL: Collectors Club of New York reciprocated the previous year's display by sending


                              one to RPSL with accompanying tape recordings. Society supports Gibbons' Centenary Show.

                              In January 1965 Winston Churchill died and it was decided to issue a set of commemorative stamps.

                              Designs submitted by David Gentlemen were accepted and stamps were issued on 8th July 1965. The

                              examples here are imprimaturs sold by the National Postal Museum. The design features the Wilding


                              portrait  reduced  to cameo  size,  which  in  itself was  a radical  departure that set the  precedent for

                             future  designs.  This  issue  coincided  with  a  debate  around  stamp  design  including  whether  the

                              Queen's  head  should  be  removed  - indeed  there  are  essays  for  this  issue  with  'Great  Britain'


                              substituted for the Queen's portrait.
