ALICE IN WONDERLAND AND THE U.S.A.

In January 2015, the British Royal Mail embraced the Alice in Wonderland story with an issue entirely
devoted to this memorable work at its 150th anniversary. From humble beginnings as a story told to
young Alice Liddell on a boat trip near Oxford, it became a story known all over the world and
translated into many languages. The original manuscript came into the hands of a group of
Americans in 1948 who presented it as a gift to the Brit ish people in appreciation of their gallantry in
WW2. We illustrate the issued card showing the famed Mad Hatter's Tea Party.
