Tannu Uriankhai was a Chinese Empire territory in northwest Mongolia. Tsarist Russia sent troops and made
the area a protectorate in April 1914. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, Uriankhai was occupied by
"White" Russian troops. Chinese troops entered southwestern Uriankhai and established control in most parts
of the territory on 22nd June 1919. This is an official cover sent from Chinese Governor Yan Shi-Ch'ao in
Chiata to a Russian officer stationed in Uriankhai on 9th August 1919. Because of the very short period of
Chinese control, postal history of this sort is almost unknown.
