A new design for Gold Coast registration envelope indicia was needed, and this essay was submitted
by De La Rue in 1922. It was accepted and used for the 1923 issue registration envelopes. In a first for
specific Gold Coast registration envelope indicia, it did not have 'Postage' included in the design. The
registration fee increased to 3d on 27th June 1923. The essay is painted on tracing-paper, in Chinese
white on dark brown. It is the only recorded example.
