Apollo 9 (AS-504) Spider and Gumdrop
On 3 March 1969 the Apollo 9 crew blasted-off from Cape Kennedy to tackle Apollo 8' s original mission
of testing the LM in low Earth orbit. Riding onboard the most heavily laden Saturn V so far were James
McDivitt, David Scott and Russell 'Rusty' Schweickart, while stored within the top of the third stage
was the long awaited lunar module.
