Postage Rates and Fees Up to One Ounce
Mulready lettersheet. May 21, 1840. Bolton to Groby. Plate 3 penny black adhesive
added to pay the second 1/2 ounce of postage, likely due to an enclosure.
Issued at the same time as the penny black adhesive, this Mulready was used on the
sixteenth day after becoming valid for the prepayment of postage on May 6, 1840, and
six days after the earliest know use of a plate 3 adhesive. Bolton dispatch datestamp
on the reverse.
