LYON-MONTROCHET
The mechanised sorting office of Lyon-Montrochet became operational in October 1977 with a
suite of forty manual coding desks treating mail from Lyon and the departements of Ain , Rhone
and Isere. At a later date, optical character recognition equipment was installed. Both
installations required trials and testing before treating real mail.

Enlarged and enhanced image revealing the two indexations
The above test cover is unusual in that it shows evidence of being tr ialled on both a manual
coding desk (ident 90) and a L.I.A.P. The indexation 95190 appears as short broad strokes in
orange-red ink applied by the ribbon of the manual coding desk over which is printed the same
indexation in tall thin strokes in rose-red ink applied by the jet printer of the L.I.A.P.
