Tests were undertaken to measure the proficiency of sorting equipment when reading
indexations applied to coloured stationery. The so-called 'colour trials' were conducted using
both PTT stationery as in the case of the bi-coloured C.C.P. envelope, top left, and on samples of
commercial stationery, below.
