First Direct Air Mail from United Kingdom
5 July 1938 - Manchester, United Kingdom to Freetown. Rate 1s per ½ oz.
Although the first southbound flight from Bathurst to Freetown took place on 26 June 1938, it wasn’t until
a few weeks later that the UK post office advertised a direct service to Sierra Leone.
This letter was flown to Germany, where it caught DLH L363 from Frankfurt (7 July) to Bathurst (8 July).
This connected with the third southbound flight ECA BF3 from Bathurst on 9 July, and arrived in Freetown
later the same day.
