20 May 1939 - New York, USA to Freetown
The first flight of Pan Am FAM 18 from New York to Marseilles, France on
22 May 1939 provided the opportunity for an all-air link to Freetown.
The transatlantic flight connected with the southbound DLH from Germany
to Bathurst at Marseilles. The DLH flight L455 left Frankfurt on 25 May. At
Bathurst (26 May) a timely link was made with the Elders Colonial Airways
flight BF49 to Freetown (27 May).
Overall transit time of six days.
