Madina Mano
The Madina office opened on 24 May 1960, one of the last to open prior to Sumbuya
independence. Mails were exchanged twice weekly with Sumbuya, from where Madina
they were sent to Freetown via Mano on the railway.
Type 093.01
5 October 1960 - Madina to London, United Kingdom.
The backstamps of Sumbuya (7 Oct) and Freetown GPO (10 Oct) illustrate the route this letter took. The
registration label on the front has MADINA written in manuscript, presumably as supplies of the printed
labels had not yet arrived. There is a 1s 3d adhesive correctly paying the half-ounce letter rate to the United
Kingdom. The embossed stationery covers the registration fee of 6d.
