Scouting Around the World Norway
In 1949, the fo urth World Scout Moot was he ld in Skj iik. Nestled in a deep valley, Sltj ak is rain shadowed
and as a result is actua lly one of the most arid pl aces in Europe with less annual prec ipitati on than parts of
the Sahara desert. The Moot was marketed under th e slogan " it never ra in s in Skj iik", but pride goes before
a fall , and vast amounts of ra in were experienced during the Moot! 2,500 Rover Scouts fro m 40 countries
participated. The fie ld post offi ce that operated in th e camp used a spec ial postmark (N-0 15) 2- 12 July.
