Scouting Around the World Nonvay
The Vesterlen di stri ct of the Norwegian Boy Sco uts Assoc iati on held the ir 1954 camp on the
Tengesdal fa rm near Egersund . Many of the 304 Boy Scouts who attended remembe r the same two
thin gs; that it was ra inin g a ll th e time, and that the re was a tota l ec lipse of the sun on 30 June. The rura l
post office whi ch operated in the camp used a spec ial postmark (N-024) from 26 Jun e to 3 July.

The 8th World Scout Jamboree was he ld in 1955 a nd was hosted by Canada at N iagara-on-the-La ke, O ntario.
This was the first World Jamboree to be he ld in th e Weste rn He mi sphe re, and the first o utside of Europe.
More than I I,OOO Sco uts from 7 1 countries a nd co loni es attended this gath eri ng, however only four from Norway.
