The Commun ist Party assumed undi sputed contro l over the government of Czechoslovakia in late February, 1948.
The new communi st government demanded that the Czech Scout Movement "vo luntarily" j oin CS M, the communi st
youth organi sati on. A Scout Congress was call ed in Zlin on 28 February to di scuss the matter. At 7 pm the posta l
cancel was put into use. At 8 pm the state police arrived, closed the congress and seized the cance l. T he shocked
Sco uts and leaders rece ived the news over th e radio: "The Scout Movement has vo luntarily j oined the CS M.
The congress is superfluous. Go home." Very rare postmark, in use for one hour only, few copies recorded.
