Gloucester, Gloster or Glostr Coffee House
248, Oxford Street
(1826-1842)
Its existence was first recorded in 1826 with Jas. Barker as its proprietor
although a Gloucester Coffee House operated at 258 Oxford Street
between 1822 and 1824. It is probably the same establishment but its
proprietor was recorded as Chas. Brown. Little is recorded about it
although it did have a much more illustrious name-sake in Piccadilly.
A mourning letter written by a son to his parents on 26th September 1842
following the death ofMrs Sharples. It was posted in Rawtenstall, Lanes,
evidenced by a black UDC and passed through Manchester before
arriving in London the next day.
