Grecian Coffee Bouse

(1702-1843)
Variously described as located in "Devereux Court, Strand", "Devereux
Court leading to Temple", "Temple, London", "Essex Court, Essex St."
and "19, Devereux Court". Its earliest mention is in 1702. Sir Isaac
Newton, while President ofthe Royal Society, was a regular diner in the
company of many eminent men. Between 1776 and 1802, Edmund
Chalmer, Solicitor to the Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty, regularly
had his letters addressed there as did many gentlemen of the law.
