1895 DOCUMENT C

This document shows a remarkable display of the one anna green, two annas pink and four annas yellow of
the 1884 issue contrasting with six examples of the new 1895 one rupee rose with pinperfs.

                                               SUMMARY OF THE 1884 ISSUES

This first issue of Kishangarh stamps, disliked by many, are sometimes described as amateurish and poorly
produced. However, they prove to be a resource in understanding how a feudatory state produced its own
stamps, with no more experience than a legendary school of watercolour artists.

This study is the first in-depth investigation reported of these stamps. The designs are simple, use symbols
and, for the four annas issues, a design related to the seal of the country, used on the first revenue papers in
1871. There is still much to be done, especially in the subject of the designs and printing methods.

The problems encountered, the errors and lack of consistency, are probably related to the universal
engineering problem of how to upscale together with an industry being built from foundations built on a few
dedicated inventor-artists. It is made more difficult to understand by the total lack of records kept by the
Feudatory State on the subject of stamp design and production during the time period before the 1913 issue
